Introduction
Solar panels produce electricity using photovoltaic (PV) cells. These cells produce direct current (DC), and are usually coupled with an inverter to change the DC to alternating current (AC). The type of PV cell used in a system can have a large impact on its performance. Two common types of PV cells are monocrystalline and polycrystalline. Monocrystalline cells are made from a single silicon ingot which has been sliced into wafers that make up each individual cell in a module. They tend to be more efficient than polycrystalline models.

Uses
These panels are very popular for use on houses and buildings as part of a larger system to generate renewable energy, there are some things that make them perfect for your home, too. Once you learn more about why solar panels are so great for homes it uses most applications such as water heating, swimming pool heating and Solar Water Heating Systems (Solar Thermal), ground-source heat pumps (GSHP's) and residential air-conditioning systems. Solar Panels are used to provide low-voltage electricity used to power remote homes and cabins that do not have access to a commercial power grid.

Manufacturing Process
Solor panels are made in two basic steps. First, silicon (Si) crystals are formed into either polycrystalline cells or monocrystalline cells. Monocrystalline cells have a higher efficiency than polycrystalline. The next step is to coat each cell with an electrically conducting material like metal tin or indium.

This layer helps carry electricity from one cell to another when light hits the cells. Monocrystalline and polycrystalline cells have different needs in terms of thicknesses of these layers; for example, a silicon-based coating may work for a monocrystalline cell but not for a polycrystalline one.

This business boom is expected to continue in the future years as electricity bills rise and solar panels become more affordable. In the future years, the market will be aided by rising demand for solar panels in the residential rooftop solar business, as well as low prices for polysilicon and silver used in solar cell manufacturing. In addition, the lowering cost of solar panels has spurred governments in a number of countries to take more efforts and provide subsidies, which is expected to help the residential solar panel market grow.
